New affordable housing will soon be available near downtown Buffalo. Evergreen Health Services is redeveloping an old five story warehouse on Cherry Street, just off the Kensington Expressway.
Evergreen Vice President Justin Azzarella says there's a tremendous need for housing among low-income individuals with chronic disease in the LGBTQ community.
"We know that when folks are improperly housed, or not housed at all, that they can't achieve their best healthcare outcomes," Azzarella said.
"So when we're looking at new state models and federal models for healthcare, how to streamline and keep people healthy, and keep people out of emergency rooms, providing them safe, affordable, stable, clean, secure housing, is really number one on that list."
Residents will access to Evergreen's network of medical, pharmacy, mental health, nutrition and transportation services. Nearly three-quarters of the 56 units in Evergreen Lofts are already spoken for.
