Senator Charles Schumer is urging federal authorities to take action in assuring the safety of Halloween makeup. Schumer states that many novelty makeup and face painting products are produced in China, and testing has shown they often contain lead, cobalt, nickel and other ingredients that could pose a danger to children and others.
Some countries ban lead in makeup, and Schumer wants the Food and Drug Administration to take stronger actions, such as conducting routine testing.
