The United Way of Buffalo and Erie County has received a second round of funding to help students at Buffalo's Southside Elementary School and South Park High School.
The recent U.S. Department of Education grant is one of a dozen awarded across the nation. Michael Weiner, President and CEO of UWBEC says, the $2.5 million will help fill gaps in services.
"By creating a collaborative of network providers that will be part of these two schools, they'll be connected at the hip, they'll be providing complimentary services, and they will do that in partnership with a wealth of services that are already available, including Say Yes," Weiner said.
Theresa Schuta, Principal of South Park High School says, since the program began the school's graduation rate went from nearly 39-percent in 2008 to 61-percent last year.
