Comedian Paula Poundstone brings her standup show to Asbury Hall at Babevillein Buffalo Friday at 7 p.m. WBFO's Eileen Buckley reached Poundstone by phone from her home in California to discuss her comedic success.
For more than three decades, Poundstone has delivered her humor to audiences on from the stage, television screen and through the radio. Poundstone is a regular on NPR's Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me.
Poundstone tells WBFO she has crafted her free-form style, in part, because she is forgetful.
"It really started out because I don't remember things very well. I would start out with a set set. Then seconds into it, I would forget what I was going to say," said Poundstone. "In a panic, I would work the crowd."
Poundstone was also one of the voices in the Disney Pixar film 'Inside Out,' playing the character Forgetter Paula.
"It was typecasting I'll tell you," noted Poundstone.
"It's really really funny, and I got a pass by just given a character which is inherently funny. She's in charge of the things the girl forgets, which is classic for me because I am losing my short term memory so fast. She does a lot of yelling down the hall 'forget it'."
