Schumer pushes for cheaper glasses
Senator Charles Schumer is urging the Federal Trade Commission to modernize what is known as the "Eyeglass Rule." Schumer will propose today opening the eyeglass marketplace to greater competition and better pricing. He wants consumers to have complete prescription information to explore options for their glasses, and he wants a foreign monopoly on lens manufacturing to be broken.
More than 200 million Americans have vision loss, and the average price for glasses is $300.
