Buffalo officer's gun discharge under internal review

The Buffalo Police Deparment's Internal Affairs Division is looking into an incident Tuesday night where an officer fired his weapon at a suspect.  Officers responded to a call of a home invasion on California Street around 8:30 p.m. Two people inside the house were said to be injured. When they arrived, authorities say an armed suspect was fleeing on foot.

Following a pursuit, a struggle ensued and at some point, an officer fired his weapon, striking the suspect once. The 39-year-old Buffalo man was taken to ECMC, where he is in stable condition.

Based on standard policy, the incident is being investigated by Internal Affairs and the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave. A police spokesman says it appears the use of force was "appropriate under the circumstances."
