The Cuomo Administration announced Thursday that from the $50 million in grants being awarded for emergency communication system upgrades, Erie County will get $2.1 million.
The funds come in a fourth round of competitive grants awarded by New York State to help county governments improve their emergency communications, and help counties better communicate in times of man-made or natural disasters.
"Things like equipment, infrastructure and technology are certainly some of the things they can do," said Kevin Wisely, Deputy Commissioner of the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, when asked how Erie County may apply the money.
Genesee County is also receiving grant money in this fourth round, a little more than $3 million. Officials say over the past four years, all counties statewide have received some level of grant money for their respective systems.
Additionally, it was announced earlier this summer through the NY Responds statewide emergency management program that all counties are eligible to receive complimentary universal emergency management software.
