Buffalo and Erie County’s Central Library is putting itself on the map as part of the up-and-coming downtown scene.

Earlier this week, the library officially debuted its “Launch Pad” maker-space, where visitors can access high and low-tech hands-on activities and training.

Library Director Mary Jean Jakubowski said the library’s location between Canalside and the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus is making it a true downtown destination.

“From our launch pad here, to our technology training classes, to the resources that we provide, whether it’s coming to a job fair, looking for information on various schools and activities, to our rare and special collections, to our genealogy and local history, we really are a downtown destination,” said Jakuowski. “And we hope that people will come and see us. We have so much to offer.”

The Central Library's front plaza sits across from the Buffalo Niagara Visitor center and local landmarks like the Liberty Building.

Jakubowski said the library loves to have visitors at its physical locations, but is also available at all hours online. She said the library’s YouTube channel offers video training on a host of different technology from how to download books to using Microsoft programs. She said today’s library is available, virtually, at any time.
