Jay J. Bolvin's father released from prison

The family of Jay J. Bolvin wants the public to be aware that his father has been released from prison, highlighting Jeremy Bolvin's criminal past which includes two convictions for savagely beating babies.

The injuries inflicted on Jay J. as an infant led to J Jay's Law. It toughened penalties for repeat child offenders. But since it didn't apply to Bolvin, he was released this week after serving a four-year sentence.

"I believe in the system. I realize that he's done his sentence. He's free. But he gave my nephew a life sentence," said Kevin Retzer, Jay J.'s great uncle.

"Jay J. suffered 11 fractures and permanent brain damage that he's still dealing with today."

Retzer was among those who pushed for passage of  JJ's Law. If it was on the books in 2011, Bolvin could have received a 10-year sentence.

Retzer says now he's supporting Brittany's Law, which would set up a registry for domestic violence.

"There's too many horror stories where the person they say they are online is not the person they are. You should be able to check that," he added."

The 28-year-old Bolvin was caught violating parole  by trying to meet women online and using a false name.
