Legislation that governs the number of fishing lines that can legally be used by freshwater anglers in New York has been extended. Governor Andrew Cuomo signed what is known as the three rod rule, which allows sportsmen to use up to three fishing lines at one time in freshwater bodies. The legislation, which was set to expire at the end of this year, will remain in effect through 2017.

Catch limits, however, have not been eased.
