Hamburg Police on Friday confirmed a probe is underway into Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane. Police Chief Gregory Wickett made a brief statement outside police headquarters late Friday morning, saying the alleged incident in question happened last weekend and involves a forensic investigation.
"The Town of Hamburg Police Department is investigating an incident that allegedly occurred at the residence of NHL player Patrick Kane last weekend. At this time, we are gathering information and awaiting forensic testing results. We will have no further comment on this investigation at this time," said Hamburg Police Chief Gregory Wickett in a brief statement outside police headquarters late Friday morning.
The Buffalo News reported Thursday police are conducting a rape investigation. Wickett would not confirm that on Friday. No charges have been filed.
Kane, 26, was the number one overall pick in the 2007 NHL Draft. He has won three Stanley Cup with Chicago and has represented the U.S. in two Olympics. He was scheduled to make a public appearance this weekend locally with the Cup, though that is now unlikely to happen.
This is not Kane 's first brush with the law. He was arrested in Buffalo in 2009 for allegedly punching a taxi cab driver. He and a cousin pled guilty to lesser charges after being indicted for misdemeanor assault.
