Sea Cadets graduate after week of training

WBFO News file photo

A group of more than 100 teenagers gathered at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park for some extensive training over the past week.

The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps put the youths through their paces in extensive training that will provide lifelong lessons and skills. The local instruction was guided by a naval theme, and the cadets lived and learned on the U.S.S. Little Rock, U.S.S. The Sullivans and the U.S.S. Croaker. Sea Cadets Lieutenant Junior Grade Bruce Schad said this is just one of the sessions that are offered around the country.

"During the summer months, when the cadets are off school, there is a number of trainings held in various locations, some of which are held at military bases, some off base - all types of programs from sailing skills, to medical, to field ops. There is even a Seals course that they have."

More that 160 Sea Cadets were on hand for the graduation ceremony yesterday.

Schad states that the training prepares the Cadets for future military service or other roles in life.
