Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has taken measures to establish a leadership election in October. Harper announced the dissolution of Parliament this morning, setting the stage for his campaign as a member of the Conservative Party. He has held power since 2006. Analysts believe that Harper will face stiff challenges from Liberal leader Justin Trudeau and New Democrat leader Tom Mulcair.

If Harper wins the October 19th vote, he will be the first prime minister since 1908 to win four consecutive elections.
