Governor Andrew Cuomo was in Buffalo Wednesday to announce plans for a new Western New York Workforce Development Center.
The job training center is going to be located in the long vacant former Niagara Machine plant on Northland Avenue. The focus will be on training workers for advanced manufacturing and the energy sector.
"You're seeing the investment, yet again, on Buffalo's East Side," said Mayor Byron Brown.
With the city poised to create 12,000 new jobs in the coming years, Brown sees the center providing "training opportunities for people living right here in the East Side of Buffalo."
While the facility is located in the city, Governor Cuomo said the New Buffalo has opportunity for everyone everywhere. "It's a different kind of revitalization. It's a revitalization with a social conscience, and a social conscience that we affirmatively pursued," Cuomo said.
"With a New Buffalo, with the new jobs, everyone in Buffalo has a seat at the table."
The facility is expected to open in late 2017. It will anchor the proposed $44 million Belt Line Corridor Business Park.
