Local store describes high demand for Confederate flag

U.S. flag makers agreed last month to stop the production of the Confederate flag. The decision was made following the horrific murders of several African American churchgoers in Charleston, South Carolina. But there still some consumers in search of the controversial symbol.  WBFO'S Eileen Buckley spoke with the General Manager of Ace Flag on Transit Road in Depew, Peter Roe.

"It's interesting to see that this has become the focus of this event and this topic. We've had a tragedy take place in a place of worship where someone went in and did  something like this, and to have the flag be the area of focus, to me, I think we are missing, as a culture and a society, by focusing in on the flag on this. I think there are bigger questions to be raised here," noted Roe.

Roe can no longer acquire the flags, but he said it remains the 'most popular' call at his store.  He  suspects many want to buy it as a 'novelty' item since it will no longer be available. "There is certainly a demand out there for them," noted Roe.

Roe noted some Confederate flags are produced in China.

"But I don't like to sell those. I like to sell American made flags," stated Roe.

"All of the manufactures, I have to admit, have thankfully taken it out of our hands," said Roe.
