Governor Andrew Cuomo and Senate Republicans have come to an agreement regarding ammunition sales provisions in the New York SAFE Act. A moratorium placed on Internet sales of ammunition will be lifted. Also, a statewide database that requires background checks for ammunition purchases will be suspended. The measures were welcomed by opponents of the SAFE Act, but Senators Marc Panepinto and Robert Ortt stated that the reforms did not go far enough.
The SAFE Act went into effect after the Connecticut school massacre in 2012.
