More than 70 companies, looking to hire veterans, took part in Thursday's "Hiring Our Heroes" event in Buffalo. It attracted more than 100 former military members and/or their spouses. Event Director Kathy Poynton says veterans who missed the hiring fair at the Connecticut Street Armory should see the resources available on line at HiringOurHeroes.org.
"One of the key things is that, let's say you're here in Buffalo, but maybe you're looking down the road to somewhere in California, register for those events in California. Just because you technically, physically won't be at the event, upload your resume. Because those companies, that are registered for that California event, are going to get a copy of your resume," Poynton said.
To qualify for taking part in Hiring Our Heroes, Poynton said, companies must have open positions.
Since the organization was formed in 2011, she says the hiring fairs have led to more than 25,000 veterans being placed with companies.
