New Falls hotel called a sign of city's resurgence

Chris Caya/WBFO News

The first of several new hotels planned for downtown Niagara Falls celebrated its grand opening Thursday.State and local officials helped cut the ribbon today on the 110-room Wingate by Wyndham on Rainbow Boulevard by the Seneca Niagara Casino. The hotel will create 15 new full-time jobs.

Hotel Vice-President and Owner Frank Strangio says his family was confident to invest in downtown Niagara Falls and the staff at the Niagara Tourism and Convention Corporation played a big role.

"The staff at NTCC are bringing people to Niagara Falls. That's why you see guests from all over the world here. That's why you see hotels being built," said Strangio.

"It's a new day in Niagara Falls. We feel that the city is in a resurgence. We're glad to be a part of it."

The Wingate by Windham includes retail space along Rainbow Boulevard an indoor pool, meeting space and fitness center. The state provided nearly one-million-dollars in taxpayer funded incentives for the project.

Within blocks of the new hotel, three other hotels and two new restaurants are under construction.
