Construction will soon begin at the Northtown Plaza. A Whole Foods store is taking the place of the former BonTon building. The introduction of the popular food market and the development of the expansive retail space on one of the area's major thoroughfares is a part of the growing degree of attention that Buffalo is garnering from developers outside of the region.
WS Development of Boston, Massachusetts purchased the plaza, and Development Project Manager Andrew Manning says the company is excited to begin construction.
"This property in Amherst at Northtown Plaza was the perfect mix for WS Development in expanding our portfolio as well as providing a new tenant to the market, It will be the first Whole Foods in Western New York."
The plaza's facelift will include a search for local, regional and national retailers to fill the space.
Work on the BonTon building is expected to start within weeks.
