Albright-Knox launches Innovation Lab

Chris Caya WBFO News

The Albright-Knox Art Gallery has launched a new initiative designed to promote critical and creative thinking in young people. The AK Innovation Lab's first project is called ArtGames 2.0. Albright-Knox Director Janne Siren says the interactive app will engage kids memory and challenge their capacity to identify visual markers.

"[It's] all in the spirit of fun and play so that this is not intended to be a boring homework task. This is supposed to be something that, in fact, expands the mind by using magnificent art works as the springboard for these exercises," Siren said.

Officials say one of the many goals of the AK Innovation Lab is to expand the notion of what a 21st Century museum can be.

Partners include the International Center for Excellence in Animation at Daemen College, Empire Visual Effects, and the University at Buffalo's College of Arts and Sciences.
