Butter lambs, chrusciki and more at the Broadway Market

Shoppers were lined up outside the doors of the Broadway Market Friday morning to carry on an Easter tradition in Buffalo.

"We opened at 6 a.m. and there was already people waiting at the door and cars pulling into the parking lot. I think by 6:15 the parking lot was full," notes Broadway Market Manager Kathy Peterson.

Peterson says thousands of people will visit the Broadway Market today, an Easter tradition for many, making this Good Friday the busiest day of the year at the market.

Chrusciki Bakery has been a staple at the 126-year-old Market since 1987. Owner Ania Gurnari says people are buying everything from butter coffee cake and braided breads to strudels and almond rings, but chrusciki is of course their specialty.

"Chrusciki is a sour cream flaky fired dough with powdered sugar, and that's it.  It's like eating a potato chip. Once you have one, you can't stop. It's on the sweet side," she said.

In recent years, there's been a resurgence at the Broadway market, Peterson notes numerous vendors join the market for the Easter holiday and some now are staying on Saturdays throughout the year.

The market is open until 7 p.m. Friday.
