Erie County Legislators are considering a local law aimed at regulating pawnbrokers, secondhand dealers and jewelry, precious metals and coin exchange dealers.
The proposal establishes a uniform countywide electronic reporting program for tangible personal property acquired by pawnshops, secondhand merchants and others in an effort to support the law enforcement community's efforts to recover stolen property.
The local law is sponsored by Legislature Majority Leader Joseph Lorigo, Lynne Dixon and Democrat Peter Savage, III. A public hearing is set for later today on the issue.
