Physician shortage leads to scholarship fund for UB students

The Western New York Medical Scholarship Fund is a newly formed community organization providing four-year scholarships to local students attending the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

Founder and Co-Chair John J. Bodkin, II., M.D. says the idea behind the scholarship fund is to address the issue of a physician shortage locally.

The fund offers scholarships and mentoring opportunities to local students who excel academically and have a demonstrated financial need.  The student must pledge to stay in Western New York to practice.  Each of the awardees receives a minimum of $30,000 annually for each of the four years of medical school.
