The National Weather Service is keeping a close eye on local creeks as the weather warms up and ice jam flooding potentially sets in. The Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Buffalo Creek in Erie County until 7:45 p.m. Monday and a Flood Watch for Erie, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua and Wyoming Counties through Tuesday morning.
WBFO's Cheryl Hagen spoke with Meteorologist Bob Hamilton Monday morning about the potential for ice jam flooding.
The Weather Service reported Monday there was at least one ice jam on Buffalo Creek near Gardenville. This was causing minor flooding in some areas along the creek.
Parts of Erie, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua and Wyoming Counties are all under the risk for ice jame flooding in the watch area. The greatest risk will be late Monday afternoon through the evening when snow melt effects tributaries.
