Thousands of Niagara Falls residents are being advised to keep the water trickling.
Niagara Falls Water Board Executive Director Paul Drof says the continuously frigid weather has increased the number of calls they're seeing regarding frozen lines. Drof says the city has a little more than 200 customers who generally experience frozen pipe issues, but now they're hearing from people who've never experienced problems before.
Drof says the Water Board is advising customers to leave the water trickling on one of their taps, saying it will cost about a dollar a day.
"We're seeing homes that have never experienced problems... people have lived their for 50 or 60-years... that are now seeing frozen services. This is a precautionary, purely voluntarily thing to do. We don't look at it as the extra cost. We're looking it as a cost avoidance for the user."
Drof says the alternative is the expense involved in calling a plumber to help deal with frozen water lines.
