Weekend's winter storm becomes fatal; claims two lives

The latest winter snowstorm to pound Western New York has taken the life of at two people, including a young girl.A 33-year-old woman and a 9-year-old girl were killed on Saturday morning, while heading east-bound on the New York State Thruway between Dunkirk and Silver Creek. State police say the two were traveling in a pick-up truck, when they rear-ended a tractor-trailer that was stopped on the shoulder.

The driver and two other passengers of the vehicle were taken to a hospital for treatment of what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

A twelve-and-a-half stretch of the Thruway was closed for several hours while police investigated the crash.
