Snow removal to wrap up this week in South Buffalo

Ashley Hirtzel

Mayor Byron Brown says the worst of the storm may be over, but the city is still responding to the affected areas of South Buffalo and Kaisertown. City crews are focusing on clearing excess snow in the business district on Abbott Road Tuesday.

Volunteers with the Mayor’s ‘Impact Team’ and AmeriCorps are shoveling sidewalks for seniors. Brown says half of the sidewalks in the South Buffalo region are complete. He says residents will not be fined for un-shoveled sidewalks.

“It really is still the responsibility of the homeowner, but we know it’s very difficult with the amount of snow that fell, how think it is now because of the warm up and rain. So, we’re trying to help as many people as we possibly can,” said Brown.

Brown says the city will continue to monitor for potential flooding.

“We’ve been blessed so far, but we’re continuing to pay attention. So far, we’re very pleased to report that there has not been any flooding in the City of Buffalo in the affected areas,” said Brown.

The Mayor also thanked everyone in Buffalo who responded to the lake-effect storm.

“Truly we are “One Buffalo.” People from all across the city pitched in. They came into the affected areas to provide some support as they could. I’m very proud of the people of Buffalo and how they continue to support each other and help each other in this very difficult storm situation,” said Brown.

Brown says city crews cleared snow from South Park Avenue Monday and will focus on Seneca Street Wednesday. They’re expected to wrap-up the snow removal efforts over the next few days.
