A pair Amherst Police of officers were hospitalized last night while attempting to arrest a shoplifter. Patrols were called to the Walmart on Sheridan Drive at around 10 o'clock. One officer was dragged by the shoplifter's vehicle as he attempted to stop the thief. At least one cop fired shots at the car as it escaped. None of the injuries are considered to be life threatening, though one officer is said to have suffered a serious injury.

Police have arrested 33-year-old Ronald Kerling, and they are determining if the suspect was acting alone.

Anyone with information is asked to call Amherst Police at 689-1390.
