Heavy snows coming to region

A Lake Effect Snow Watch will go into effect Monday night and last through Wednesday morning. The announcement covers Erie, Genesee, Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany counties. Snowfall totals in the most persistent snow regions could equal two feet or more. Windy conditions could cause blowing and drifting snow as well as creating periods of limited visibility. National Weather Service meteorologist John Hitchcock warns that the weather will begin to change overnight tonight.

"Before the lake effect snow gets here, there is going to be a general snowfall that develops tonight and continues through the day tomorrow, and that's going to bring everyone a few inches of snow. So, we expect the morning drive Monday morning to be slippery and slow."

Hitchcock states that shifting winds will make it difficult to determine exactly where the heaviest snow bands will migrate. He also mentions that a warming trend is on the radar for next weekend, bringing rains which should wash away much of this week's snows.
