Another step in the revitalization of downtown Buffalo will be celebrated today with the grand opening of the new Flying Bison brewery. The new building in Larkinville will open at noon with food, music and beer. Company founder Tim Herzog provides a menu of what attendees can expect.
"We'll have the old favorites: Buffalo Lager, Aviator Red, Rusty Chain, Buffalo IPA. We'll have our seasonal Blizzard Bock. We set aside a couple of kegs of Bison Fest, just because the Frankfurters band is playing for our grand opening. We're old friends with them. I've known them for decades. So, if you're going to have the Frankfurters come and play, you've got to have some fest beer; you've just gotta."
The new $2.5 million dollar facility will offer visitors expansive views of the brewing operation as well as a comfortable tasting area and retail section. Herzog anticipates an expansion of brewing capacity that could reach 10,000 barrels and an opportunity to spread their exposure across the state.
The project did receive some assistance from the Erie County Industrial Development Agency.
