A potential legal issue has arisen in the race for the 146th State Assembly seat. Candidate Steve Meyer is alleging that a radio ad supporting incumbent Ray Walter violates New York State Penal Law. Meyer charges that the ad uses a male voice to impersonate him while offering misinformation about Meyer and his campaign.

According to the Meyer campaign the ad uses a fake interview with the male impersonator in giving "phony answers to a set of questions" and "providing a series of lies about Candidate Meyer with zero basis of truth." The candidate states that "this ad crosses the line."

The Meyer camp believes the ad has been sponsored by the Erie County Republican Committee.

Meyer is requesting that the Walter campaign pull the ads immediately and offer an apology to voters.

Walter could not be reached for comment.
