Authorities talk down man threatening Niagara Falls jump

Crisis negotiators worked through the night to convince a Canadian man who was threatening to jump over Niagara Falls to return to safety.Niagara Regional Police received a call just after 5 p.m. Thursday that someone had climbed over the retaining wall on the Ontario side of the brink. Crisis negotiators began a dialogue with the man, who was identified as a 49-year-old St. Catherines residents. 

Those efforts continued throughout the night and into the morning. Around 7:30 a.m. Friday, the man retreated from the perch onto a safe area. He was taken to a medical facility for assessment. 

The man's name is not being released.
