Abbott Road between Route 20A and Armor Duells Road in Orchard Park will soon be resurfaced. The roadway was added to the list of 60 roadways in Erie County to be completed by the end of this year.
Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz announced the project Wednesday. He says 1.88 miles of Abbott Road between Route 20A and Armor Duells Road will be fully resurfaced following a mill and overlay operation.
The roadway carries 6,700 vehicles every day. Poloncarz says the project will cost $850,000 and is funded through the county’s 2014 capital budget.
“This year the county is going to spend approximately $30 million on road, bridge and infrastructure projects in Erie County, which is approximately $7 million more than what was originally planned. This was unfortunately, because of the very tough winter we had and the degradation of roads, some of them which unfortunately degraded a lot faster than we thought they were going to,” said Poloncarz.
Poloncarz says the project will not affect traffic headed to Ralph Wilson Stadium for Bills games.
“One of the nice things about it is we’ll be doing it after the Bills vs. San Diego Chargers game and then the Bills are on the road for two weeks. So, that should give us sufficient time to actually get out there and complete the job,” said Poloncarz.
Poloncarz says he believes the project will make the roadway safer. He says weather permitting, the repair project will begin on September 22nd.
