A multi-year plan to renovate Coca Cola Field has been released. The first phase will include the replacement of more than 3,000 seats in the special reserved sections with wider seats. This phase will begin as soon as the Herd's season concludes and is expected to take a few months. The city is footing the $760,000 bill for the seats. Eventually, all of the seats in the stadium will be replaced. Later phases will include improvements to electrical and plumbing systems as well as concourse and concession improvements and even a retractable roof over the party deck.
Mayor Brown states that funding the improvements to the 26-year-old facility is important as the stadium is a prime downtown destination.
The Kansas City firm that designed the ballpark is assisting with planning the upgrades.
