New York State Senator Charles Schumer is calling for new federal regulations in governing the use of privately owned drone aircraft. Schumer states that airways are becoming like the "wild west" with the proliferation of small, remote controlled aircraft. The Senator supports the use of civilian drones, recognizing the commercial and recreational benefits they provide. Schumer is looking to limit the risks these objects can present to other aircraft and to pedestrians.
He also is hoping to limit their use as spy tools by private investigators and amateur users.
