The former supervisor of the Town of Niagara was sentenced to three years probation Monday after accepting a guilty plea to a charge of official misconduct.Steven Richards, 61, took a misdemeanor plea in May and resigned his office at the time. He was originally charged with a 23-count indictment, alleging he misappropriated town resources and equipment to benefit his family-owned auto repair shop. He has since paid more than $1,200 in restitution.
Richards became emotional at his sentencing in State Supreme Court Monday morning, apologizing to the town and his family.
Justice Christopher Burns ordered him to stay away from politics for the term of his probation.
