Public meeting on cable merger set for Monday

The public gets a chance to offer its thoughts Monday evening on the proposed merger of Comcast and Time Warner Cable.Consumer groups have been quick to protest the merger. While some have noted the number of  customer service complaints that have been lodged against the cable providers, others have raised the alarm over how such a merger could impact "net neutrality."

Before granting its approval to the merger, the New York State Public Service Commission will hold a series of public meetings across the state.

Area residents are invited to offer their opinions Monday night.  An informational forum is set to start at 6 p.m. at the UB North Campus Student Union Theater. A public statement hearing follows at 7:30 p.m.

Time Warner has 2.6 million subscribers in New York State. Comcast has 23,000.
