Governor Andrew Cuomo announced on Friday a series of grants, supporting the importance of trees around the state. Nearly $800,000 were made available across the state yesterday in recognition of Arbor Day. Erie County received more than $130,000 in Urban Forestry grants, which are funded by the State's Environmental Protection Fund. The monies are targeted for a variety of projects, including the planting of trees, assisting with community tree inventories and management plans as well as storm water management.
Senator Mark Grisanti stated that the funding will help to improve our communities, saying "Today we recognize the tremendous environmental, social and economic benefits of trees in New York State. The urban forestry grants will help build our community forests and make our urban centers healthier and more beautiful places to live."
