Mary Wilson takes controlling ownership of the Bills

In the continuing uncertainty of what will happen to the Buffalo Bills in the wake of owner Ralph Wilson's recent death, the team released a statement Thursday saying Wilson's widow Mary is now the controlling owner of the franchise. In the meantime, Mary Wilson expressed her confidence in the people in running the organization.

"I have complete confidence in Russ Brandon, our President and CEO, to continue his duties of running the organization. General Manager Doug Whaley and Head Coach Doug Marrone remain empowered by Russ to run the football operation,” Mary Wilson said, in the statement.

The team says it will establish a process at an appropriate time for sale of the franchise, while following NFL rules, and its obligations to New York State and Erie County.

It says it plans to have detailed discussions with the NFL, the State and County, and others in determining the timing and structure of any sales process.

Brandon noted that the team remains in mourning for Wilson's passing, but he says the front office is continuing its day to day operations as normal "because that’s the way Mr. Wilson would have wanted it.”
