An agreement on a new spending budget for New York State was reached on Saturday. Governor Cuomo's office announced that the 2014 - 2015 budget will include a potential $1.5 billion in property tax relief, investments to improve education and to strengthen Charter Schools as well as reforms to Common Core. There are economic development components that are expected to create jobs and to fulfill the Governor's $1 billion commitment to Buffalo.

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz was pleased with the budget, saying "I commend Governor Andrew Cuomo and the state legislature for crafting a budget that puts all local governments, if we work together, in a better position to lower property taxes for the people of Erie County and also continues the investment in Buffalo and Erie County through the 'Buffalo Billion' program."

The environment is also getting a financial injection.
