The crowds were clearly thinned by the cold weather, but under a clear blue sky the Saint Patrick's Parade marched up Delaware Avenue Sunday.
It was a familiar tune as the Buffalo City Guard kicked off the parade with "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling." In the crowds were everything from Irish wolfhounds to Irish beer.
Grand Marshall Chris Liffler was at the head of the parade, representing the United Irish American Association.
"I'm the sergeant-at-arms...(so) normally I work at the end of the parade helping traffic flow get out but today, I get to lead it all."
Another marcher was familiar with Saint Patrick's Parades. Catholic Bishop Richard Malone is a veteran of the parades in Irish South Boston.
"There's plenty of enthusiasm and spirit both here and in Southie (South Boston) to keep us warm, that's for sure," Malone said.
For the parade, Bishop Malone was wearing a top hat which belonged to a predecessor, Irish-born Bishop William Turner.
