Former radio host Weppner announces congressional run

Twitter

A former radio talk show host announced her candidacy for Congress Friday morning. Kathy Weppner will run as a Republican in New York's 26th Congressional District, the seat currently held by Democrat Brian Higgins. Weppner, known to her listeners as "Kathy from Williamsville," says she has spent years listening and talking to residents of the district and has a deep understanding of what they want.

Weppner says one of the focuses of her campaign will be jobs. She says there are many skilled workers in the 26th District in need of employment.

"We need industry to come back and we need to make sure that the policies are in place and the regulations are lifted so that small businesspeople with a dream can start those businesses in the district," Weppner tells WBFO News.

A mother of three children in the Armed Forces, Weppner says she is strongly against cutting military spending. She calls herself a strong proponent of the Second Amendment and a proud member of the NRA.

Buffalo businessman Emin "Eddie" Egriu will announce his congressional candidacy for the 26th District on Monday. Egriu will challenge Higgins in the Democratic primary.

The 26th District covers parts of Erie and Niagara counties, including the cities of Buffalo and Niagara Falls.
