The new RiverWorks on Ganson Street in Buffalo is now the site of the 7th Annual Labatt Blue Pond Hockey Tournament. The pond hockey games kicked off Friday morning along Buffalo's waterfront.
After years of melting ice at the Erie Basin Marina site, RiverWorks now has controlled ice rinks for the event.
"Weather has certainly been a challenge for us in years past. This year we refrigerated rinks we are playing on," said Labatt Brand Manager Lisa Texido.
The refrigerated rinks are maintaining temperatures of 18 to 22-degrees.
The public is welcome to come and enjoy the event this weekend.
"We have up to 120-teams with more than 800-players who will play in the tournament," said Texido.
It includes teams from Massachusetts, North Carolina, Maryland and Wisconsin. The event is free and open to the public. Friday's games are played until 10 p.m. Games resume Saturday at 7:30 a.m. until 8 p.m.
"We have great food, awesome beer and great hockey," noted Texido.
