Wallenda taking up summer residency at Darien Lake

Chris Caya/WBFO News

The "King of the High Wire" is returning to Western New York this summer for an extended stay. Nik Wallenda and his family will be performing twice daily from June through September at Darien Lake theme park in a show titled "Nik Wallenda: Beyond the Falls."

The daredevil says the act will be staged indoors in Darien Lake's 1,800-seat Galaxy Theater. Wallenda says, at times, he will be only about 15 feet away from the audience.

"I think it makes it much more intimate," Wallenda said Wednesday. "This is really an intimate, 'get to know Nik Wallenda' type of show."

Wallenda, who has crossed portions of Niagara Falls and the Grand Canyon in recent years, says the show will include a high-wire pyramid act that his daredevil family is known for. He says his wife will be part of the performance.

Wallenda says he still plans to do a high-wire act at the 2014 Erie County Fair.
