Winter Storm Warning for all of WNY Tuesday night

WBFO News file photo

Less than a week ago, the area was hibernating from bone-chilling temperatures. While more moderate weather has taken over in recent days, more severe weather is on the way.  A Winter Storm Watch has been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning.  It is in effect from Tuesday night through Wednesday night.

"I'm very confident we're going to see accumulating snow," said Jon Hitchcock of the National Weather Service office in Buffalo.

"The only question is how much? Right now, we have a range of five to ten inches because the storm is still a couple days away and a long ways away."

While winds will be relatively calm during the weather event, ranging from 10 to 20 miles per hour, snow could accumulate quickly, covering roads and causing trouble for travelers.

"It looks like the Wednesday morning commute will be the worst drive time."

The Winter Storm Warning is posted for most of Western New York from 10 pm Tuesday through 10 pm Wednesday.

Visibility will be less than a half mile at times during the storm. Accumulating snow will result in difficult travel conditions with snow covered roads and poor visibility.  The greatest snowfall rates and worst travel conditions are expected late Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.
