Erie County Legislator Betty Jean Grant has announced her candidacy for a New York Senate seat. The post that she seeks is the 63rd District seat occupied by Democrat Tim Kennedy. Grant, also a Democrat, barely lost to Kennedy in a 2012 primary for that seat. She is expected to have even broader support for this year's run. Kennedy charges that Grant will caucus with Republicans who he expects will support her in the race. Grant has not disclosed the supporters that she expects to line-up behind her, but she has indicated that she expects to run a clean campaign.

The 63rd District includes portions of Lackawanna and all of Cheektowaga.
