State officials have arrived in West Seneca to help the victims of recent flooding along Buffalo Creek. New York's Department of Financial Services has opened a mobile command center on Harlem Rd.Seventy homes were damaged in the Lexington Green neighborhood off of Mineral Springs Road when the flooding occurred January 11.
Department of Financial Services Analyst Michael Romano says trained staff can assist homeowners in resolving any insurance issues they may have.
"We have expedited contacts at the insurance companies," Romano says. "Hopefully, we can get a check faster for them than normally would occur."
Romano says the staff is more than willing to talk to people who may not have flood insurance. He recommends residents bring their homeowner's policy, which he says may have an endorsement that allows coverage in such a circumstance.
"This isn't our first rodeo, so to speak. We've done this all throughout [Superstorm] Sandy downstate and with flooding upstate, as well. We're pretty knowledgeable," Romano says.
The Department of Financial Services Mobile Command Center at the Winchester Community Church at 909 Harlem Road will be open until 7 p.m. Wednesday and again Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
