A young man convicted of the brutal slaying of another teen in North Buffalo in 2012 was sentenced Friday to the maximum 25 years to life in prison. Demetrius Huff, 18, was convicted in a jury trial of second-degree murder. He was accused in the July 5, 2012 beating and stabbing death of 16-year-old Darren Brown along an abandoned railroad bed near Colvin Avenue. Brown was stabbed a total of 54 times.
Officials say the beating was part of a gang rivalry. After the beating and stabbing of the victim, Huff was convicted of returning to the scene later and setting the body on fire to destroy evidence.
One of his companions that night, 17-year-old Ezeiekile Nafi, was sentenced to 25 years in prison last May on a first-degree manslaughter charge.
A third gang member, Antoine "Deuce" Sanders, slit the victim's throat, according to a statement by Huff. Sanders, 20, has not been charged, but police say he remains a potential suspect in the case.
