Man dies in crash with school bus in Orleans County

Authorities say the driver of a car that crashed into a school bus on a snow-covered western New York road has died, while the bus driver and four students were taken to a hospital as a precaution. The Orleans County sheriff's office says 23-year-old Daniel Hollaert Jr. was driving east on Route 104 around 7:40 a.m. Tuesday when he crossed the center line and hit the bus in the rural town of Murray, 25 miles west of Rochester.

Deputies say Hollaert died at the scene. The 72-year-old bus driver and four students from the Kendall Central School District, ranging from 11 to 15 years old, were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with what authorities described as minor injuries.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
