Buffalo State College is in the early stages of finding a new president to replace the late Aaron Podolefsky.
Howard Cohen is sitting in the president's office now, as the Presidential Search Committee prepares to hire a consultant to help with the process.
The chancellor emeritus of Purdue University Calumet is holding the fort as he has since Podolefsky stepped down because of the illness that took his life soon thereafter.
The process has started for Podolefsky's replacement. College Council and Search Committee Chair Howard Zemsky says the hunt may take six months.
"We got the best job there is. So we are going to have a lot of candidates. This is SUNY's largest comprehensive college.," Zemsky told WBFO News.
"We've got an amazing institution, wonderful history, literally hundreds of millions of dollars of investment, fabulous faculty and staff, amazing location. We have this amazing location right here in Buffalo."
Zemsky says SUNY schools can be attractive because the state has shown its commitment to public higher education, even in the worst years of the financial crisis.
He says the committee is probably looking at a current president or provost who has worked up the university path from teacher and is probably from a public college or university.
